The following procedures are
required to install the necessary Oracle client files on your Windows computer so you
may access the university's Oracle databases.
The links in this page work best with Internet Explorer. If you use
another browser you may experience problems. These instructions are for a
Windows 32 bit operating system. If you
experience any problems with the installation, please contact your EIT desktop
support representative for your area or call the EIT Help Desk at
530-3644.
1. Click on one of the follow links to start the installation of Oracle database client access files. Unless you were told you are running a 64 bit Windows operating system, you can should choose the 32 bit installation.

After running this batch file, it may take a few minutes before you see anything. It will eventually bring up this window. Click on the Next button to continue the installation.

2. Click the Next button to continue the installation. The next window you will see is the Install Progress window.

3. When the installation reaches 100% it will look like this.

This window may be obscured by the
previous window. Click on the Minimize button if the installation has
reached 100% and you can not see the Oracle
Net Configuration Assistant window.
Click checkbox named Perform typical configuration. Then click the Next button to continue the installation.

6. At the next window (shown below), click the Finish button to continue.

7. When the installation is done you will see this window.

Click the Exit button to end the software installation.
8. The next step will create a link on your computer to the Oracle database. Click on the following link to execute a batch file that will establish the link.
9. Now that software is installed your computer needs to be configured to access the ODS. This means the computer's registry must be updated. The registry entries can be updated by clicking on following link.
You can run the file from this web server or download it from the server and run it from your hard drive. On some machines, the security settings prevent the registry being updated even from our intranet. We have even had instances where the computer has indicated the update took place, but it did not work. To be safe you should download this file to your computer and run it from there.
When you run the file you will be asked if you are sure you want to add the information to your registry. Click the Yes button. If the registry addition worked you will receive a message indicating it worked. Hit the OK button. Your computer is now configured to access the database server.

When
linking to an Oracle table or view within a reporting tool like MS Access or
Crystal Reports, you may be prompted for an Oracle account name and
password. See window below. When
prompted, enter ODST.UTOLEDO.EDU for
the Service Name to connect to the
Banner test ODS. For the User Name and
Password, enter your Oracle ID and password.
Your Oracle ID may be the same as your UTAD ID, but your password will
not be the same as your UTAD password and should be the password given to you
by our Oracle DBA when you were granted access to the Banner ODS.
