SQL Server Client Installation
You must have a UTAD domain account to access the data warehouse. If you
need a domain account contact your Desktop Support Specialist by calling the
EIT Service Request Line (Help Desk) at 419.530.3644.
There are three basic steps to installing the software needed to access the data
from your PC. The steps have all been automated and all you need do is press a
few buttons. If you have any problems with the installation or have questions
contact your Desktop Support Specialist. If you have not received a
notification from us that you have access to the Data Warehouse you may still be
able to install this software but you will not be able to access the tables.
Instructions
Microsoft Data Access Component (MDAC) installation. This will install
the Microsoft SQL Server driver needed to access the Data Warehouse. This
is version 2.8 SP1 and comes straight from Microsoft. Click on the link
and run the executable file. If you like you can download the file first
and then execute it. This is a standard Microsoft install; you need to
accept the license agreement and hit the 'Next' button to proceed. After
the software is installed you will get a message indicating the Setup is
Complete. Click the Close button and proceed to step 2. If you
already have Windows XP, you may already have the needed software. If you
get an error stating "This setup does not support installing on this
operating system"
you can skip this step and proceed to step 2.
Now that software is installed your computer needs to be configured to access
the Data Warehouse. This means the computer's registry must be updated.
The registry entries can be updated by clicking on this link:
SQL Server Data Warehouse Configuration
You can run the file from this web server or download it from the
server and run it from your hard drive. When you run the file
you will be asked if you are sure you want to add the information to
your registry. Click the Yes button. If the registry
addition worked you will receive a message indicating it worked.
Hit the OK button. Your computer is now configured to access
the Data Warehouse. If you want to use the HRS, SAM, or SIS
report libraries proceed to step 3.
-
The report libraries utilize Microsoft Access. You will need Access ( the
2000 or XP versions) installed to use the libraries. The links below will
take you to the report libraries. You can save the links to your desktop
and/or copy the files to your PC. The only reason you should copy the
files to your PC is to modify the reports for your specific needs. Most
users should just place a shortcut on their desktops. Using Microsoft
Internet Explorer is the easiest way to create the links or copy the files, but
Netscape instructions are also included below.
There IS NOT a report library for the ADM, GRD, & BRS databases.
The ADM and GRD links below only contain links to the tables in
their respective databases. These databases were only created
to get you started faster by not having to link to the tables
yourself.
Microsoft Access 2000 report library links:
HRS & FRS report library
SIS report library
SAM report library
ADM
GRD
Microsoft Access XP report library links:
HRS & FRS report library
SIS report library
SAM report library
ADM
GRD
The XP version was created with Service Pack 2. If you are
having problems accessing the XP report library, installing the
latest service packs for Office XP could solve your problem.
NOTE: You can only access the data for the specific Data Warehouse you have been
granted access to. You may copy all the report libraries if you wish, but
you will not be able to view the data unless you have been granted permissions
to do so.
